My Lumix Wedding Photography Kit for 2025
My Lumix Wedding Photography Kit for 2025
Wedding photography is a world of fleeting moments, where precision, speed, and reliability matter most. My kit for 2025 is built around three Lumix camera bodies and a versatile selection of lenses from Sigma, Lumix, and Canon (adapted via the Sigma MC-21 adapter). Every piece of gear plays a vital role in helping me capture love stories effortlessly and beautifully.
Camera Bodies
Lumix S5II – My Workhorse
My primary camera is the Lumix S5II, and I absolutely love it. Compared to its predecessor, the original S5, this model offers noticeable upgrades in autofocus—especially in low-light conditions, such as intimate receptions—and improved buffer depth, making it a dream for wedding coverage.
Lumix S5 – Versatile and Reliable
I keep two Lumix S5 bodies in my kit for flexibility and peace of mind.
One stays on my hip via a Spider Holster, paired with a telephoto lens, ready for moments that require a tighter focal length at a pinch.
The second serves as a backup in my camera bag—just in case a technical hiccup arises during the day.
My Go-To Lenses
Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN – My Favorite Companion
This lens is practically glued to my camera. The image quality at f/1.4 is nothing short of breathtaking—every time I load my photos into Lightroom, I’m blown away. The ruggedness of this lens is impressive, too, surviving an entire four-hour elopement in the Scottish Highlands in torrential rain without missing a beat.
Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN – A Powerful Upgrade
I recently upgraded to this lens from the bulkier DG HSM version—and wow, what a difference! The sharpness is nearly identical to its larger predecessor, but the focus speed is vastly superior, making it perfect for capturing those emotional wedding moments.
Lumix 24-60mm f/2.8 – A Lightweight Contender
A recent addition to my kit, this lens is still awaiting its wedding day debut. I usually keep the Sigma 24-70mm in my bag as a backup, but I rely on it heavily during reception coverage—especially when using a speedlight. My hope is that the lighter build of the 24-60mm will make it an even better choice for long wedding days.
Sigma 70-200mm Sport – Ceremony Staple
This lens is a lifesaver during ceremonies and speeches. Its performance is outstanding, but I admit the weight makes it less practical for regular use. I briefly had the Lumix 70-200mm f/4, which was nearly perfect, but I struggled with ISO performance in dimly lit ceremonies.
Canon 17-40mm EF – A Classic Wide-Angle
This trusty lens has been with me for a long time. While I don’t use it frequently at weddings, it can be a lifesaver in tight spaces or when I need an ultra-wide shot in a scenic venue. Optically, it still holds its ground—just don’t look too closely at the edges of the frame!
Sentimental Favorite – Fujifilm X-T2
This camera is close to my heart—it was a wedding gift from my wife, and I will never part with it. While it mostly stays in the car, I occasionally bring it out during the drinks reception for a fresh perspective or when I want a more discreet shooting style.
Lighting & Accessories
DMW-BLK22 batteries
I carry 8 batteries with me on a wedding day, I never go through more than 6 but like to keep extra just in case. I also carry an Anker power bank just on case I need to charge any.
Godox V100 & V860III – A Love-Hate Relationship
These flashes get the job done, but I’ve noticed some autofocus struggles with my S5II in Continuous Focus mode. The workaround? Either shoot in burst mode—where subsequent frames tend to be in focus—or stop down to at least f/4 and switch to single autofocus.
Sigma MC-21 Adapter – Seamless Compatibility
On my S5II, the Sigma MC-21 adapter integrates perfectly with my EF-mount lenses—autofocus is snappy and precise. However, on my original S5, it only functions in single autofocus mode, though accuracy remains spot on.
Tenba DNA 16 Pro – The Perfect Workhorse Bag
This rugged, spacious shoulder bag has been my go-to for carrying most of my kit in a single, organized setup. Unfortunately, I believe it’s now discontinued, which is a real shame—because I absolutely love it. Its durability and thoughtful design have made wedding days so much easier, and I’ll be holding onto it for as long as I can!
DJI Mini 3 – Aerial Perspectives When Needed
While I don’t often use a drone during weddings, it becomes an invaluable tool for adventure-style elopements, where ground-level angles just don’t cut it. When the location calls for epic, sweeping shots that capture the grandeur of the landscape, this little powerhouse steps in.
DJI Osmo Pocket 3 – Behind-the-Scenes Potential
I originally picked this up with the intention of capturing behind-the-scenes footage for my social media, though I haven’t fully put it to use just yet. That said, I’m already blown away by its low-light video quality—it’s truly mind-boggling how well this tiny sensor performs in darker conditions.
